Independent Grievance Investigation

All organizations should have an established grievance procedure or approach for investigating grievances or alleged fairness at work complaints. A key objective of this is of course to ascertain whether a complaint has substance. The task of investigating grievances is often the responsibility of HR, a trusted third party colleague or manager. However, involving a sensitive, independent grievance investigator from outside of the organisation may often be necessary or be most likely to give each of the parties involved the assurance of neutrality and detachment from any disciplinary procedure that might follow that they need to speak openly with an investigator.

The success of any grievance investigation depends not only on the quality of the investigation and reasoning for the decision reached by the investigator, but also on the extent to which the rival parties trust the integrity of the investigator and the investigation process itself. Through our strong background of investigating high-profile grievances and grievance appeals, we've worked hard to ensure that we satisfy each of these needs.

Drawing on the experience of both extensive HR fairness at work and police detective investigation, we’ve developed an approach to grievance investigation that provides rigour and integrity, but is sensitive and time efficient. In addition, we can make use of specially developed reporting templates when appropriate.

Grievance Investigation Training

We also provide grievance investigation training, giving comprehensive both experienced and prospectie grievance investigators knowledge of how to conduct and present the conclusions of investigations effectively, consistently and fairly. Find out more about this popular course: Course Profile.

Further Information

We are always very happy to talk to organisations that may not have an immediate need for help but who want to informally talk through the possibility of forming a relationship with a conflict management, grievance investigation and mediation specialist that they may quickly call upon when the need arises. Of course such conversations and any subsequent engagement involves no obligation. We look forward to talking with you.
